Crews Clean Up Friars Rd. Oil Spill

POSTED: 3:28 pm PST November 3, 2009
UPDATED: 3:30 pm PST November 3, 2009

A small oil spill on a busy freeway onramp Tuesday caused a handful of vehicles to slip and slide, but no serious crashes or injuries were reported.

However, one vehicle did hit a guardrail on the Friars Road onramp to the northbound Interstate 15 before the California Highway Patrol closed one lane for clean-up.

The spill was the result of an unrelated auto accident in which oil was "dragged into the roadway" about 1:20 p.m., according to CHP Sgt. Fred Hartman.

The right turn lane to the onramp was briefly shut down while Caltrans workers cleaned up the spill, Hartman said.
