Boaters Rescued 6 Miles Off Oceanside

OCEANSIDE, Calif. -- The Oceanside Harbor Police rescued six people Thursday night after their boat sank off the North County coast.The 40-foot “Great Escape” sport fishing boat started taking on water around 7 p.m., according to the Oceanside Harbor Police.Authorities credit the boaters preparedness for leading to the safe rescue. The rescuers were about two miles away when the boat became completely submerged. The arrived to find six people all wearing lifejackets. After radioing for help the boaters used flairs to signal their position.
Some of the boaters were teenagers.The Coast Guard helped coordinate the rescue in its early stages but didn't send any boats or helicopters, according to a spokesperson.
