Gunman Robs Santee Beauty Shop

POSTED: 7:17 pm PDT October 29, 2009
UPDATED: 4:25 am PDT October 30, 2009

A gunman robbed a beauty supply store in Santee but no one was hurt, according to authorities, who say the case could be related to several recent robberies.

The robbery at Sally Beauty Supply Business, 9625 Mission Gorge Road, was reported at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, according to San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Trinidad Tejeda.

The gunman entered the store with a plastic bag and demanded cash from a clerk, who complied, Tejeda said.

The suspect was last seen walking out of the store with an undetermined amount of cash.

The clerk described the gunman as Asian, in his 40s. He was last seen wearing a blue baseball cap, blue windbreaker and khaki shorts.

Based of the description, San Diego police believe the case is possibly related to more than a dozen other armed robberies committed over recent weeks, Tejeda said.

The so-called Back Room Bandit has robbed floral shops, bakeries, pet and stationary stores, and other businesses in San Diego, Chula Vista, National City, La Mesa and El Cajon. In some of the crimes, he reportedly fled the scene in a blue Toyota pickup truck with a matching camper shell, according to San Diego police.

Anyone with information about the suspect was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.

A $1,000 reward is available to anyone with information that leads to an arrest. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
