UPDATED: 10:13 am PDT October 23, 2009

A former Chula Vista fire captain who pulled bodies from the World Trade Center after Sept. 11 has pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography, it was reported Friday.

Robert Eugene Bryant, 37, also admitted earlier this month to engaging in two sexually explicit online chats with individuals he believed to be underage girls and subscribing to sites depicting incest, The San Diego Union- Tribune reported.

Bryant, who is unmarried and has no children, was the youngest fire captain in Chula Vista's history prior to being fired over the summer after the city learned he was under investigation.

He is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 14, after which he will have to register as a sex offender and could serve time in federal prison, according to the Union-Tribune.

Four other men sentenced this month on child pornography charges received sentences ranging from 18 months to 13 years in prison. They are:

  • Jorge Antonio Lobo, 53, of La Jolla, a former surf coach at Muirlands Middle School, sentenced to 18 months in prison.
  • Wayne Croteau, 48, of Escondido, a church janitor, was sentenced to 13 years in prison.
  • Dustin Anthony Kram, 20, of San Diego, a retail employee, was sentenced to eight years in prison.
  • Robert David Schreiber, 57, of La Jolla, a businessman, was sentenced to nearly four years in prison.
