Reward Offered In Case Of Duck Shot 5 Times With Crossbow

A nonprofit animal rights organization is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for shooting several arrows at a duck in Chollas Lake, 10News reported.

Jane Cartmill, President of the San Diego Animal Advocates, said, "People who abuse animals seldom stop there. The person who deliberately hurt this duck is a danger to the public as well as to animals.

Authorities discovered the Muscovy duck Wednesday after it had been shot five times with a crossbow.

The duck, with the arrows still in its body, was transported to the County's Animal Shelter on Gaines Street. One of the arrows penetrated the bird's head so a special avian veterinarian examined the duck to see if the animal's life can be saved. The arrows were successfully removed and the duck is in good condition.

"Whoever did this cowardly and malicious act needs to be brought to justice," said Dawn Danielson, Director of the Department of Animal Services.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Lt. Dan DeSousa of the County Department of Animal Services at 619-767-2624.
