The leader of a group dubbed the "Fat Boy Bandit" responsible for robbing seven North County Banks and a video store was sentenced today in Vista to 12 years in prison.

Arturo Ulloa, 28, pleaded guilty in an earlier hearing to 11 counts of robbery.

He was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Daniel Goldstein.

Two other defendants, Fredy Carrillo and Dwayne Scott Depenning, pleaded guilty earlier.

The robberies, which occurred between August 2006 and December 2007, were initially reported to be the act of a lone "husky" man weighing almost 300 pounds -- later identified as Ulloa.

Depenning pleaded guilty to his involvement in one of the robberies and Carrillo pleaded guilty to seven counts of robbery.

The robberies in the "Fat Boy Bandit" series took place at:

  • Wells Fargo Bank on Business Park Drive in Vista; which was robbed twice in August 2006
  • Downey Savings Bank in the 3200 block of Oceanside Boulevard in November 2006
  • Wells Fargo Bank in the 2500 block of El Camino Real in May 2007
  • TMH Video Store in the 2000 block of Mission Avenue in October 2007
  • Point Loma Credit Union in the 2100 block of Vista Way in October 2007
  • First Future Credit Union in the 1800 block of Hacienda Drive
  • Bank of America in the 2700 block of Loker Avenue West in December 2007
