Man Arrested In Attempted Carjackings, Robbery

SAN DIEGO -- A man who tried to carjack two vehicles -- injuring a woman in the process -- holed up in a Grantville-area church Thursday, prompting a police standoff that ended when he surrendered about 45 minutes later.The man allegedly used a gun to rob a Shell station on Lake Murray Boulevard in La Mesa about noon, according to police.Over the next half-hour, he allegedly tried to commandeer vehicles on 70th Street and at a post office on Mission Gorge Place in San Diego, SDPD spokeswoman Monica Munoz said.Following the second failed carjacking attempt, he ran into nearby Mission Valley Church of the Nazarene. Officers surrounded the building and ordered the suspect out, and he eventually complied about 1:15 p.m., Munoz said.Medics took a woman injured in the second carjacking attempt to a hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
