Driver 'Blinded By The Sun' Kills Motorcyclist

OTAY MESA, Calif. -- An investigation is under way Thursday into a crash that killed a motorcyclist in Otay Mesa.The two-vehicle crash occurred shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday in the 7900 block of Airway Road, according to San Diego police.Witnesses said the driver of an eastbound sport utility vehicle made a left turn directly in the biker's path, causing the two vehicles to collide. The driver told investigators the sun was in his eyes at the time and that he did not see the oncoming motorcycle, San Diego police Officer Brad Ruff said.The biker, 51-year-old warehouse clerk Joaquin De Lara of Tijuana, died at the scene, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office. He is survived by his wife.
