SAN DIEGO -- Two sixth-graders and one adult at Oak Valley Middle School in 4S Ranch have tested positive for swine flu, it was reported Wednesday.County public health officials announced the new H1N1 cases Tuesday, a week after more than 100 children and adults from the school missed classes.County Health and Human Service Agency spokeswoman Holly Crawford said the confirmed cases mean the virus probably was to blame for some, if not most, of the absences, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
A week prior to falling ill, some sixth-graders from Oak Valley attended an overnight camp in the East County. A total of 22 of the 400 students who participated in the camp went home earlier after becoming ill, the Union- Tribune reported. As of last Wednesday, 309 people have been hospitalized in San Diego County with swine flu and 23 have died from it, the county reported on its Web site.
