Driver Hits CHP Officer, Crashes Into Ambulance

PALA, Calif. -- A California Highway Patrol officer was being treated for an ankle injury Wednesday after being struck by a hit-and-run driver near Pala, authorities said.The officer was struck around 9 p.m. Tuesday while doing traffic control near the scene of a two-car crash at Pala Temecula Road, according to the CHP.The driver accused of striking the officer allegedly sped off southbound, then crashed into an ambulance that was about to take a patient from the earlier crash to a hospital.
The driver, whose name was not immediately released, was arrested immediately following the second crash. The officer was taken to a hospital, a Cal Fire dispatcher said.The CHP was investigating whether alcohol may have been a factor.
