The Pentagon released the name today of a 27-year-old Camp Pendleton-based Marine killed in combat last week in Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Aaron J. Taylor of Bovey, Minn., died in Helmand Province on Friday, according to the Department of Defense.

He was a member of Marine Wing Support Squadron 372, Marine Wing Support Group 37, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger released a statement praising Taylor's "commitment to serve America and willingness to lay down his life to protect the freedoms we enjoy."

Flags at the state Capitol will be lowered to half-staff in honor of Taylor.
