21 people displaced in Sherman Heights apartment fire

SAN DIEGO - An early morning fire at an apartment building in Sherman Heights left 21 people displaced, but no one was injured.

The fire was reported about 3:45 a.m. in a unit at the three-story building on Market Street near 19th Street, a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher said. Firefighters said heavy smoke billowing was from the building, she said.

Investigators were working to determine the cause of the fire, and a financial estimate of the damage it cause was not immediately available, the dispatcher said.
