Man Pushing Stalled Vehicle Hit By Suspected DUI Driver
Gerardo Perez Hospitalized With Severe Leg Injuries

SAN DIEGO -- A motorist who was pushing his broken down Toyota off Interstate 805 was struck by a drunken driver near state Route 163 Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.Gerardo Perez, 32, of San Diego, was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital with severe leg injuries, CHP Officer Brad Baehr said.Perez was driving south about 2:15 a.m. when his 2000 Toyota Corolla came to a stop in the right-most lane, Baehr said. Perez was pushing his vehicle onto the shoulder when he and his car were struck by a 1988 Honda Accord, Baehr said.The Honda driver, 39-year-old Charlene June Festa of El Cajon, was taken to a hospital to be checked out, arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving and taken to Las Colinas women's jail in Santee.After the initial collision, another vehicle sideswiped the Honda, but no one was injured in that mishap, he said.
