Royal Caribbean International's ship Radiance of the Seas will offer seasonal cruises from San Diego to Mexico, beginning later this month, it was announced Friday.

The 2,500-passenger vessel will have 29 round-trip cruises from San Diego starting Sept. 25 through May, ranging from four-to 12-night itineraries, to the Mexican Riviera including, Acapulco, Cabo San Lucas, Ensenada, Huatulco, Ixtapa, Manzanillo, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta, according to the Port of San Diego.

In addition, the ship will depart San Diego on a 12-night trip to Alaska on May 8.

"The Port of San Diego is thrilled to add the Radiance of the Seas to its fall/winter lineup," said Stephen Cushman, chair of the Board of Port Commissioners. "Cruise travelers will enjoy the variety of the cruises and the region will benefit from extra business."

According to the port, each cruise ship that stops in San Diego has a $2 million impact on the local economy.

In fiscal year 2008, there were 297 cruise calls on San Diego, carrying almost 1 million passengers.
