Boy, 2, Struck By Car Declared Brain Dead

A 2-year-old boy struck by a car in Clairemont is on life support Friday pending organ donation, authorities said.

Christopher Chavez was struck by a MINI Cooper around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday in the 3300 block of Idlewild Way, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

San Diego police said the boy darted out into traffic.

Chavez was declared brain dead at 12:35 p.m. Thursday at Rady Children's Hospital, the Medical Examiner's Office reported.
