Merriman, Tequila Respond To Sources' Accounts Of Incident

POSTED: 5:21 pm PDT September 10, 2009
UPDATED: 5:39 pm PDT September 10, 2009

Reality TV star Tila Tequila said through her Twitter account that she is preparing to meet with investigators in San Diego about her altercation with San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman at his Poway home last weekend.

On Thursday, 10News' Juliette Vara learned that the District Attorney's Office sent the case back to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, asking them to answer several questions.

Meanwhile, Tequila is continuing to speak on the incident through her Twitter account, saying, "Chargers Suck Baby!" in one post. In another post, she said, "A real man is able to apologize. A real woman is able to forgive and accept the apology."

Merriman has not remained quiet, but he has not spoken about the specifics of the case.

Sources close to the incident provided 10News with inside information about what happened before Tequila called authorities early Sunday morning.

After practice on Thursday, Vara asked Merriman about 10News' report.

"Yeah, I heard about it. I thought someone wrote that and it was a joke," the three-time Pro Bowler said.

"Will you comment on if it had anything to do with any kind of jealousy?" asked Vara.

"No, I can't comment … soon, though," said Merriman.

On her Twitter account, Tequila posted: "Where else in the law does it say ____ wouldn't sleep with me and all my friends so choke her and beat her."

Another post read: "He knows I'm not lying … instead of focusing on football all he does is keep releasing stories about me … hmmm … suspect."

Tequila also posted: "I'm going to San Diego tomorrow to speak with the DA. Choking me is not OK!"

Attorney Gretchen Von Helms said Tequila should use caution as anything she says online could be used against her in court.

Merriman said he does not plan to meet with investigators, but said his attorney would. He said he was not sure when that would be.

Some close to the incident have said the case is part of a publicity stunt by Tequila.
