POSTED: 10:24 am PDT September 10, 2009

A 15-year-old boy who ran into traffic in Rancho Penasquitos was struck by a vehicle and injured, police said.

The teen was struck shortly before 7:15 a.m. while he was attempting to run across the 13500 block of Carmel Mountain Road, near Defreitas Avenue, according to San Diego police Officer Brad Ruff.

Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he was treated for a compound fracture to his left leg, Ruff said.

Southbound Black Mountain Road, between Oviedo Street and Carmel Mountain Road, was expected to remain closed until 11 a.m. while the accident was being investigated.
