Man Pleads Not Guilty To Leaving Baby In Hot Car
Aremtio Diaz Faces Up To 6 Years In Prison

SAN DIEGO -- Aremtio Diaz pleaded not guilty in court Wednesday to charges that he left his 12-month-old son inside a hot car with the windows up in Escondido, 10News' Juliette Vara reported.Prosecutors said Diaz went grocery shopping and left his baby in the car with the windows up and the doors locked. Now, he faces up to six years in prison.People in court gasped when the prosector said it was 96 degrees outside that day.The child was freed when police broke the window of Diaz's Honda at the Escondido market where he parked. According to witnesses, Diaz was gone for 25 to 35 mintues. The baby, however, was only in the car for less than 10 minutes before he was rescued. Those at the scene said the child was sweaty and terrified.Witnesses 10News spoke to said Diaz saw police rescuing his baby but instead of racing outside he stayed inside for a long period of time and watched from inside the store.Diaz, who had an interpreter by his side, pleaded not guilty.His bail has been set at $100,000 and he's been ordered to stay away from his child.His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 15.
