1 Dead, 1 Hospitalized After Barrio Logan-Area Shooting
Witnesses: Occupants Of Two Vehicles Were Shooting At Each Other

SAN DIEGO -- A 30-year-old man is hospitalized Wednesday following a shooting in Barrio Logan that left a 20-year-old man dead, police said.The shooting occurred around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday in the 2800 block of Main Street, near 28th Street, according to San Diego police Capt. Terry McManus.Witnesses told police a fight broke out between occupants of a white four-door compact and people riding in a brown pickup truck. At some point, the occupants of both vehicles began shooting at each other, McManus said.A 20-year-old man from the white vehicle was struck by gunfire, he said, adding that after he was shot, the man fell atop the vehicle and it began traveling westbound on Main Street.He fell off the vehicle in the 2600 block of Main Street and was left injured in the street, while the white vehicle continued on, according to McManus.Paramedics took the man to a hospital, where he died at 7:40 p.m. Tuesday. His name was withheld pending family notification.Around the time police found the man in the street, someone called 911, stating that he was following the white vehicle that had been involved in the shooting. He said someone inside the vehicle had just been dropped off at a hospital in Coronado, McManus said.San Diego and Coronado police officers went to the hospital and found a 30-year-old man with gunshot wounds. Paramedics transferred the man to a trauma center to be treated for his injuries, which were not life-threatening, McManus said.Police later located the white vehicle abandoned near 2nd Street and Prospect Place in Coronado, according to McManus, who said the vehicle had been stolen.The motive for the shooting was under investigation.Anyone with information on the case was urged to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or the Homicide Unit of the San Diego Police Department at (619) 531-2293.
