Fire Officials: Arson Was Cause Of June 10 Blaze

SAN DIEGO -- Investigators Monday identified two arson suspects sought for allegedly setting a June 10 fire in a garage at a University City condominium complex, destroying two vehicles and causing $125,000 in property damage.The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department identified the suspects in the arson blaze at La Jolla International Gardens, 3425 Lebon Drive, as Derek Jones, 29, and Diana Dypvik, 21.They are considered dangerous and should not be approached, according to SDFRD spokesman Maurice Luque.
The blaze started inside the engine compartment of a 2009 Audi and engulfed the car before spreading to a Volkswagen Rabbit parked next to it. It took crews about 45 minutes to subdue the flames.A black GMC Yukon that belongs to Jones, and was allegedly used by the suspects to escape, was also believed damaged in the fire, investigators said.Anyone with information on the suspects was encouraged to call the Metro Arson Strike team at 619-236-6815 and ask for Detective Chris Everett.
