JAMUL, Calif. -- A 3-year-old Jamul boy who briefly wandered away from his home drowned in a nearby pond, officials said Saturday.

Tayton Barker was playing outside of his home at 16000 block of Lyons Valley Road when he wandered off and walked into a pond on Friday afternoon, the Medical Examiner's Office said. Several minutes later, a small search party made up of neighbors and family members found him under approximately 5 feet of water in the pond and pulled him out, the report states.

CPR was performed on the boy by someone with the search party, but they were not able to revive the child, according to the coroner. Paramedics pronounced the boy's death minutes later at 5:15 p.m.

An autopsy for Tayton is scheduled Saturday.
