Ex-NFL Player Accused Of Being Deadbeat Dad

A San Diego football star, who went on to a career in the National Football League, is now wanted by police for allegedly being a deadbeat dad, the 10News I-Team reported.

The I-Team learned from police that former NFL player Darnay Scott might be hiding in San Diego.

Scott is well known in San Diego, as he was a football star at Kearny High School, played at San Diego State University and then went on to the NFL.

The I-Team learned that police have been ordered to take him to jail if he is seen.

Scott played nine years in the NFL, mostly with the Cincinnati Bengals. He is being sought for failing to support his children, including a 12-year-old son named Jordan.

"Everything was fine; I got pregnant, it was supposed to be a happy moment, and then I got dumped," said Portia Smith, Jordan's mother.

The I-Team spoke to Smith by phone, and she said Scott has never paid a dime in support without being forced by a court order. That is why a judge in Hamilton County, Ohio issued an arrest warrant.

Hamilton County worker Brian Gregg collects from deadbeat fathers, and said, "It's always disappointing to us whenever a parent doesn't make child support payments. It's especially disappointing when it's someone who has had such great means and turned their back on their children."

Scott has made the list of Hamilton County's most wanted deadbeat parents. He allegedly owes about $7,500 -- nine months worth of non payment -- for Jordan and a younger daughter.

"That would be much higher except we've been able to get some cash from his NFL retirement fund," said Gregg.

Scott was arrested in January in San Diego and sent to Ohio to post bond. However, he left town before his court date.

The I-Team learned Scott was linked to an address in Escondido, and was seen driving a Jaguar.

The I-Team tried to visit Scott at the home, but a female friend who answered the door said the car was hers and that Scott only receives mail at the address. She said she has not seen Scott in months.

Smith said Scott is on the run.

"From what I hear, he's travelling, doing everything he wants to do, and doesn't want to do anything for his children," said Smith.

Scott had his child support payments reduced after he retired from the NFL in 2002.

Hamilton County officials said Scott is supposed to pay about $800 a month total for both of his children.
