Park View Little League All-Stars

Chula Vista Plans Celebration For Park View All-Stars

The city of Chula Vista is planning a celebration for the Park View Little League All-Star team when the team returns from the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.

The team is currently undefeated in pool play and has not given up a single run in two LLWS games.

City officials said they originally discussed a possible parade, but those plans were never finalized, 10News' Joe Little reported.

Mayor Cheryl Cox, who is spearheading the effort, has scaled back the celebration. Cox said the city would have thrown a ticker-tape parade but couldn't afford to do so.

Instead of a parade, the team will ride a fire engine from City Hall to Memorial Park in the heart of Chula Vista. The roughly 3-block ride will take about 10 minutes, and it will be followed by a community rally in Memorial Park.

"Working their way into the World Series is quite an achievement for the Park View Little League team," Cox said last week. "The city is excited to celebrate the team's accomplishment.

The new price tag has not been calculated yet but Cox said the city was looking for sponsors to help cover the costs.

Little reported that several sponsors have donated funds for the celebration.

The Rincon Band of Luiseno Indians contributed $10,000 to help pay for the event.

The celebration is scheduled for September 4 at 6:00 PM.

"The welcome home rally will be an opportunity for fans and supporters to congratulate Chula Vista's hometown heroes," Cox added. "The Chula Vista City Council and our residents are very proud of this team and their coaches."
