The drive.
Getting around in this Middle East city is a bit like dodging the lions in Rome. To survive, you have to be quick, you have to use the horn as much as the gas, and if you're from out of town, it is an absolute must that you love being lost.
Throw in a zero visibility sand storm and it's the ultimate in driving. By the way, the sand here is not the good stuff that feels great under foot at Coronado Shores. Kuwaiti sand is best described as being similar to brown baby powder.
Richard Klein, my intrepid photographer on this adventure, likes to describe our commute through traffic as, "I'm the maniac driver and Bob puts his hands over his eyes." I tend to say "watch it" a lot, too.
Our drive today took us to a remote section of Northern Kuwait to Camp Commando to see and interview San Diego Marines. To get there, you pass streets with no names, camels with no sense of the road and the ever present brown baby powder.
We survived, came away with a great story as well as a picture of a very confused camel. At least I think we did, I had my hands over my eyes.
The journey continues...
