Thoughts From Kuwait: Reporter Bob Lawrence's Diary

March 13, 2003

Discussion
The embed process. For the first time since the Vietnam War, journalists are being allowed to be with troops in combat. Some 1,200 reporters and photographers are here. All the American networks are represented, as is virtually every newspaper and magazine.

The foreign press is also represented in huge numbers of men and women. Slinging satellite phones, mobile uplinks, digital cameras, wireless Internet devices, not to mention, gas masks, protective gear, camping gear and more the media's technology almost surpasses what the military has here.

For all those who are meeting our military for the first time, they will come to know the men and women I have come to know in covering our Marines and sailors for 10News. Their devotion for what they do and what they may be asked to do is unsurpassed.

Journalists know a story when they see one, it's why they're here. They may just find what we in San Diego already know.
