SAN DIEGO -- A town hall meeting on the Obama administration’s health care reform proposals held Tuesday night in Hillcrest by Representative Susan Davis, (D) San Diego, was relatively peaceful compared to other meetings around the nation, 10News' Bob Lawrence reported."There was plenty of fire but none of the fireworks [seen across the country],” Lawrence said.A small but vocal group of opponents showed up at the meeting. “No national health care! No more tax and spend,” some shouted but they were clearly outnumbered and, at times, out-shouted.Both sides were given the opportunity to weigh-in on the proposed health care reform bill after the Hillcrest town council invited Congresswoman Davis to share her views. The meeting brought out a larger-than-usual crowd. “This is the first time we've ever had a line of people waiting for our meeting,” said one council member.“I believe in protest. I'm an old hippie, but I don't believe what they're doing is honest protest,” complained one man.Scores of people were stuffed into the town council meeting room where Rep. Davis took questions but there was none of the acrimony seen at similar meetings held around the country. The majority in the room not only supported health care reform but Davis, as well.“People raised a lot of issues and concerns but it was constructive and not what we've seen on TV recently,” Davis told 10News.One of the problems, Davis said, is that the bill is a work in progress. No one yet knows what the final version will look like, she said.Rep. Davis said she is planning another town hall meeting for Aug. 29, at the library in Spring Valley.
