SAN DIEGO -- Goodwill stores across San Diego County are known for attracting bargain hunters but now they're becoming the place of choice for job hunters, too, 10News reported.Goodwill Industries has five community employment centers countywide, with the center in Chula Vista averaging 60 job seekers a day.The center, located next to the store, offers everything from Internet access to job banks and group interviews.
"They can help you with your resume, help you fill out job applications, show you how to post your information online and search jobs online," said Sharon Corrigan, Marketing Development Director at the Chula Vista center.Israel Cameron was laid off from a moving company months ago."I've been looking for a job for months, and it's kind of been a dead end," said Cameron.Cameron said the slumping housing market took a big hit on the moving industry, so now he's trying to find a job with flexible hours since he's also going to school to become a computer technician.Meanwhile, others have had better luck. Out of nearly 3,000 job seekers who have walked into the doors at Goodwill this year, 991 job seekers have found jobs through the job center. The number of overall job seekers has doubled since last year, Goodwill officials said.Regina Stich, a single mother of three walked into the Chula Vista center Tuesday, and she said she is looking for a job as a medical assistant."Some days it gets frustrating, but once the calls start coming in I realize there's hope out there," said Stich.Goodwill employs 600 workers throughout the county and helps people with developmental disabilities find jobs. For information about Goodwill's job listings, visit www.sdgoodwill.org/joblistings.shtml.
