UPDATED: 5:28 pm PDT August 4, 2009

State officials completed a $199.9 million bond deal with the University of California Tuesday to fund building projects and expand "telemedicine" services at eight campuses, including more than $34 million in improvements at the University of California, San Diego.

Officials with state Treasurer Bill Lockyer's office said the bonds carry a 3.183 percent interest rate.

The bond proceeds will finance projects at the Los Angeles, Irvine, Riverside, San Diego, Davis, San Francisco, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz campuses.

The funds will primarily be used for "telemedicine" projects, improving the ability of UC medical experts to consult with others across the country.

UCSD will receive $34.3 million for a telemedicine and health education facility, along with equipment for its music building.
