SAN DIEGO -- A motorist who allegedly sped off after he struck and severely injured a 66-year-old pedestrian on a City Heights street, turned himself in Tuesday and was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, authorities reported.Alfredo Cruz Garcia, 30, surrendered at the San Diego Police Department's Mid-City Division headquarters about 7 a.m., SDPD spokeswoman Monica Munoz said.Garcia allegedly drove away at high speed after his Honda sedan hit the pedestrian in a crosswalk in the 3500 block of Fairmount Avenue around 9:15 p.m. Monday. The victim, whose name was not released, was hospitalized with serious head and neck trauma, police said.
Officers located Garcia's car in the 4000 block of Poppy Place, about half a mile from the scene of the accident, about 2:45 a.m., but the driver remained at large until he turned himself in at the City Heights precinct house later in the morning.
