CARLSBAD -- A Carlsbad woman was found slashed to death in her home, and her on-again, off-again boyfriend turned himself in as the murder suspect Saturday, a Carlsbad police lieutenant said. Jennifer Stark's body was discovered around 11:30 p.m. Friday in the hallway of her home in the 6400 block of Camino del Parque by a neighbor who could see in through an open garage door, Lt. Kelly Cain said. Stark, 43, worked at the Vista Courthouse, friends told 10News. Officers determined she was dead and had suffered from slash wounds, and they learned that she might have been with the suspect, Jonathan French, that night, Cain said. The lieutenant said French's blood-stained car was found by San Diego County sheriff's deputies during the night near the Encinitas-Del Mar city limits. French showed up at the Encinitas sheriff's substation around 4:20 a.m. and asked to be arrested, Cain said. The 40-year-old man, who suffered from some apparently self-inflicted wounds, was questioned and later arrested on suspicion of murder, according to Cain. His middle name or initial was not confirmed. The woman's two teenage children were not at home Friday night and have been accounted for, he said. French is being held at Vista Jail without bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday on one count of first degree murder.
