SAN DIEGO -- A motorist rammed a police officer's parked motorcycle Tuesday during a traffic stop in Logan Heights, then sped off and escaped into the neighborhood, authorities reported. The patrolman pulled over the driver for a traffic violation in the 3300 block of Ocean View Boulevard shortly before 10:30 a.m., San Diego police spokeswoman Monica Munoz said. After the officer parked behind the man's full-sized truck and approached the cab, the motorist suddenly backed up, causing the pickup to strike the motorcycle and knock it over, she said.
The motorist then drove off, leaving the area to the north on 33rd Street and east on Market Street, Munoz said. The patrolman was uninjured.About an hour later, another officer spotted a truck matching the description of the fugitive driver's vehicle near the intersection of Delta and 39th streets in the Shelltown area, about a mile from the site of the initial traffic stop. The officer pulled over the driver and took him into custody, Munoz said. After questioning him, however, police decided he was not the man they were looking for and released him.A flatbed truck was dispatched to pick up the damaged police motorcycle and take it to a garage for repairs. The man who fled from the motor officer remained at large at mid-afternoon.
