Bicyclist Struck By Car In Valley Center Dies

VALLEY CENTER, Calif. -- A bicyclist was fatally injured Tuesday when a truck struck him as he rode along a rural North County road.Angel Guadalupe Galvez, 37, was pedaling to the south on Cole Grade Road in Valley Center when the 1992 Chevrolet pickup approached from behind about 8:15 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.As the driver tried to pass Galvez near Fruitvale Road, the truck struck the bicycle, CHP public affairs Officer Eric Newbury said.Medics took Galvez to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, where the Valley Center resident was pronounced dead a short time later.The driver of the truck, 50-year-old Gregory Pile of Valley Center, was uninjured. It was unclear if Pile might face charges in connection with the accident.The roadway was closed in the area for about 90 minutes to allow for investigations and cleanup.
