8 Puppies Abandoned On Roadside

North County Humane Society Searches For Those Involved

The North County Humane Society is asking the public to help identify those involved in dumping eight puppies on the side of the road, earlier this week.

Animal care attendants with NCHS found eight very frightened 8 week old brown and white and black and white Pointer/Lab puppies, said NCHS Communications Coordinator, Elkie Wills.

The puppies had been left in a crate on a busy street near the NCHS Dog Park, Wills said.

The door of the crate was open and the puppies were running in the street and were in danger of being hit by vehicles, Wills said.

The eight puppies, now dubbed “Holly”, “Rachel”, “Jessica”, “Trea”, “AJ”, “Sarah”, “Randall”, and “David”, are doing as well as could be expected without their mother and after such a scary ordeal, NCHS officials said Friday.

They will be on stray hold until July 21, 2009, and given plenty of love and attention by NCHS staff in the meantime, Wills said.

“North County Humane Society serves the public and their animals so they do not have to resort to abandonment,” said NCHS Executive Director Julie Bank. “We are hoping anyone that saw anything or knows anything about the puppies will contact us.”

Anyone with information about the puppies is asked to contact the NCHS at 760-757-4357 x1218.

Abandoning an animal in a situation that can cause it harm or even death is against the law, NCHS officials said.
