Issa serves as the Ranking Republican Member on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, the House's chief oversight committee that has held hearings on the failures of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which led to the housing crisis. After we were made aware of Mr. Lackner's attempt to reach Rep. Issa with information about mortgage fraud, the Committee reached out to him in order to obtain the information he could offer.

The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Republican Staff has received information from Mr. Lackner. While a decision to pursue criminal charges would have to be made by a public prosecutor, we have added the information brought forward by Mr. Lackner to the committee's investigation of the causes of the housing bubble that led to the financial crisis.
