Eco-Friendly Hotel Opens In East Village
Hotel Indigo San Diego Topped With 'Green Roof'

SAN DIEGO -- The 210-room Hotel Indigo is now open in downtown San Diego's East Village.The 12-story hotel, at 509 Ninth Ave., is the only new hotel scheduled to open downtown this year, according to InterContinental Hotels Group, which owns and manages the property.Hotel Indigo San Diego, which was certified by LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is topped with a so-called "green roof" to cut down on heating and air conditioning costs. Environmentally sustainable practices have been incorporated into the hotel's operations, according to the management.
The hotel features a 40-foot-tall glass sculpture called "Indigo Waters" and large photographic murals.Dining and entertainment options include the Phi Bar and Bistro and Phi Terrace Bar, with a rooftop terrace, reflection pool, fire pits, lounge seating and panoramic views.
