Mobile Home Rep Accused Of Stealing Clients' Money Charged

Mobile Home Dealer Accused Of Stealing Clients' Money Charged With 5 Felonies

A North County salesman accused of swindling the elderly is facing more than five years behind bars. An I-Team investigation first exposed his business practices and ultimately led to the district attorney filing charges. I-Team reporter Mitch Blacher first broke the story and Monday he got an exclusive interview with man at the center of the controversy: Cecilio Zamora.

Zamora is a mobile home dealer in Oceanside. The I-Team reported on him in June along with claims that he was using customers' mortgage payments to pay for his future business investments. Monday the district attorney's office charged him with five felonies.

Blacher asked Zimora if he did anything wrong.

"Did I do anything wrong? I handled it wrong. I don't think I did. It's just a matter of working outside the box," he said.

Working outside the box has Cecilio Zamora in a lot of trouble. The district attorney's office is charging him with two counts of grand theft, two counts of embezzlement and one count of financial elder abuse. The last charge stems from alligations that he stole $50,000 from a 73-year-old Oceanside woman named Joel Watkins.

"I think he deserves whatever he gets from the DA because this last year that he has put me through has been hell," Watkins said. Watkins faced eviction after Zamora allegedly re-invested her mortgage payment.

On Monday in his Oceanside office he admitted he'd made some mistakes but says he wants to make it right. "The most important thing is I'm willing to take care of my responsibilities. I'll be held for my actions and hopefully they'll let me resolve this in a good way."

If convicted Zamora could get five years and eight months in state prision, have to pay a $10,000 fine and face a restitution order. He's scheduled to be in court on July 23rd.

"I will do everything I can to make sure it gets resolved and as long as I have the opportunity to fix everything it'll be fixed." Zamora said.

Watkins said she is still angry. "The last time he called me he said, 'how are you doing sweetheart?' and again I'd like to take that cane to him, because I'm not doing all that well."

If you're wondering why a man facing five felonies has not been arrested it's because his crimes are not violent in nature. The DA's office sent Zamora a letter saying he had been charged and that he is expected to appear in court. Zamora said he'll be there.
