SAN DIEGO - A vendor was stabbed at a swap meet in the Midway District.
The incident occurred just after 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Kobey's Swap Meet at 3500 Sports Arena Blvd. Police say two vendors got into an argument and started fighting.
Jack Illeman runs a sports card memorabilia stand next to where the stabbing took place. He says he saw one of the men throw a piece of paper at the other. The two men began to fight and then both fell to the ground.
"All of a sudden, the suspect took out a knife from his pocket and stabbed the victim … a couple stab wounds in the thigh and in the calf," said Illeman.
Although Illeman has been selling there for two decades, he told 10News he has never seen anything like this.
"Nothing like this ever happens at Kobey's Swap Meet," he said. "It's always been a peaceful family gathering."
The stabbing victim, a 30-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. The suspect, a 25-year-old man, was caught by security and arrested by police.
Officers closed a small section of the swap meet while they conducted their investigation.
