Investigators sought Wednesday to determine what caused the deaths of two inmates found lifeless in their cells on the same day at George F. Bailey Detention Facility and Donovan State Prison, the latter under suspicious circumstances.

The deaths of the men were discovered over a roughly seven-hour period Monday, sheriff's Lt. Larry Nesbit said.The 40-year-old county jail inmate was found dead shortly before 6 a.m., and the fatality at the state penitentiary came to light in the early afternoon.In the latter case, investigators from the county Medical Examiner's Office called in sheriff's homicide detectives after documenting suspicious evidence at the scene of the death, according to Nesbit, who declined to disclose those findings.Both men, whose names were withheld pending family notification, were pronounced dead in their cells at the penal institutions on Alta Road in Otay Mesa.The causes of their deaths remained undetermined Wednesday afternoon."We're still waiting on autopsy results," the lieutenant said.Copyright Do you have more information about this story?
