LAKESIDE, Calif. - Two people were taken into custody Tuesday after leading sheriff's deputies on a high-speed pursuit.
The pursuit started at about 4:45 p.m. at 2955 Alpine Blvd. in Alpine when a deputy saw the pair, a man and woman, inside a silver Toyota Highlander.
The deputy said the pair looked like suspects in a commercial burglary series in several cities including Alpine, San Diego, Santee, La Mesa and Lakeside. The most recent robbery attributed to the suspects is one that occurred in Santee on Jan. 26.
When the deputy attempted to pull them over, the SUV sped away. The pursuit, which reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour, headed west on Interstate 8 and then into surface streets in Lakeside.
From above, Sheriff's Department helicopter ASTREA tracked the vehicle, which was stolen from San Diego on Jan. 22.
The vehicle stopped in the 13500 block of Las Potras Way near Kay Jay Lane in Lakeside and both occupants got out and ran.
The female suspect ran but was taken into custody by arriving deputies.
The male suspect jumped over fences, trying to get away. He was taken into custody with the help of a sheriff's K-9 and was taken to a local hospital to be treated.
