ENCINITAS - Several people got caught in a rip current off the coast Thursday afternoon and two of them ended up in the hospital.
The San Diego Sheriff's Department got a call around 2:45 p.m. that two people were possibly drowning at Moonlight Beach.
Rescuers were able to get the two out of the water and into a waiting ambulance. Their identities are unknown at this point.

A spokesperson from the City of Encinitas said around seven people -- including youths and adult males -- were caught in the rip current.
