1st Nonstop Flight From SD To Asia Takes Off In December

Online Ticket Purchases Begin Today

Japan Airlines announced that its new San Diego-to-Tokyo service will begin on Dec. 2, and it started taking reservations by telephone at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Tickets for the flight will be sold via JAL's website beginning Thursday.

The flight between Lindbergh Field and Tokyo's Narita Airport will operate Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday with a 186-seat Boeing 787 "Dreamliner."

It will be the first nonstop flight linking San Diego with Asia.

The flight will have a code-sharing arrangement with American Airlines, but Japan Airlines will operate the service.

The JAL flight will depart Lindbergh Field at noon and arrive at Narita International Airport 11 1/2 to 12 hours later. The return flight takes 9 ½ to 10 hours, according to the airline.
