County Awarded $1.56M For Cleaner Bus Engines

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego County Air Pollution Control District was awarded $1.56 million in federal economic stimulus dollars Wednesday to retrofit school buses with cleaner engines.The funding was among more than $25 million in federal stimulus dollars awarded through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to communities in California to reduce diesel emissions and create jobs.According to the EPA, the money awarded to the San Diego APCD will be used to retrofit, replace and re-power 125 high-polluting school buses with newer, cleaner engines and filters."This project will reduce major diesel emissions from school buses in San Diego County, in turn improving the health of children who ride these buses," according to an EPA statement.
