Driver With Headlights Off Eludes Police

POSTED: 7:19 am PDT July 7, 2009

A motorist driving around without headlights eluded police early Tuesday morning after leading officers on a 95-mile-per-hour chase from North Park to Mission Valley, police said.

The chase began on University Avenue, near Interstate 805, around 3 a.m. after a patrolman attempted to pull the suspect's vehicle over for not having headlights on, San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros said.

The suspect drove onto northbound 805 before exiting the freeway in the Mission Valley area, he said.

Officers lost sight of the suspect near Camino Del Rio North and Qualcomm Way, according to Delimitros.

The suspect was driving a white four-door Volkswagen, possibly a Passat, Delimitros said.
