Marines Killed In Crash Identified

POSTED: 11:42 am PDT July 6, 2009

The U.S. military today released the names of two Camp Pendleton-based Marines who died in a car crash in Baja California last week.

Lance Cpl. Julio Galvan of Maywood, Ill., and Pfc. Isidro Godinez of Calexico were fatally injured in Mexicali, Mexico, about 3 a.m. Friday, according to USMC officials.

Galvan, 21, and Godinez, 19, served as diesel mechanics with the 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division.

Galvan enlisted in June 2008, and Galvan joined the Marine Corps in March of that year. Each is the recipient of a Global War on Terrorism Medal and a National Defense Service Medal.
