Woman Dies After Falling From Marina District Pedicab

SAN DIEGO -- Friends and family Monday are mourning a 60-year-old retired school teacher from Illinois who was declared brain dead over the weekend after she fell out of a pedicab in the Marina District.Sharon Miller and her husband were visiting San Diego for the National Education Conference when she and another woman decided to take a pedicab ride on the Fourth of July, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.At about 11:40 a.m. Saturday, the driver of the three-wheel vehicle made a sudden move in the 100 block of Harbor Drive and Miller fell out, hitting her head on the sidewalk, San Diego police Sgt. Ray Battrick said.
Miller suffered a closed head injury and was taken to UCSD Medical Center, where she was pronounced brain dead at 6:15 p.m. Sunday, the Medical Examiner's Office reported.Miller's family decided to keep her on mechanical support pending organ donation, according to the Medical Examiner's Office. It was not immediately clear when the organs might be harvested.San Diego police are investigating the fall.
