SAN DIEGO -- A man was shot to death outside a Fourth of July party in Escondido, police said Sunday. The shooting in the driveway in the 500 block of Vine Street occurred about 11:35 p.m. Saturday after a fight broke out, Escondido police Lt. Bob Benton said. Arriving officers, who got there in three minutes, heard gunshots in the driveway and found the victim with a bullet wound to the head, Benton said. Paramedics pronounced the person dead on the spot. Police withheld his name.
Officers believed the suspect was still in the house, and the Escondido police Tactical Operations Unit searched the home but did not find the suspect, Benton said. Police asked that anyone with more information call Detective Don Tulimero at 760-839-4776 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
