UPDATED: 9:39 am PDT July 4, 2009

San Diego police arrested a man in the shooting death of a 26-year-old Valencia Park resident, authorities said Sunday.

Jesse Garcia, 23, was detained by detectives at 11:45 p.m. Friday in the 4000 block of Ohio Street and arrested, San Diego police Lt. Kevin Rooney said.

Detectives were investigating the shooting of Philip Aguilar, who was found shot to death in the front room of his home at 5223 Santa Margarita St. about 2:30 p.m. Friday, Rooney said.

According to preliminary reports, two of Aguilar's friends -- described only as Latino males in their early 20s -- were in the home just before the fatal shots were fired, Rooney said. One man was seen leaving the address after the shooting.

Rooney would not talk about the motive.

Garcia was booked into San Diego County Jail and is expected to be charged with murder.
