SAN DIEGO -- Christina Hennigan, the last victim of home invasion suspect, Thomas James Parker, said Friday she is glad the other victims won’t have to testify against Parker, in an exclusive interview with 10News reporter, Steve Fiorina Friday. She said she got away from the attack with just a bump on the head and a bit of a black eye.But because she bravely fought back, then chased her attacker, resulting in his arrest, she now has the gratitude of six previous victims, all Asian women and their families.
Hennigan said Friday she was scared when she was attacked in her garage Wednesday but decided she needed to fight back.“Wow! He had to be caught. He wasn't going to get away with that,” Henningan told 10News.She'd just been attacked in the garage of her Mission Valley condo by a man with a knife and zip-ties. She fought back. He ran. She followed, screaming and then others joined the chase.“The Border Patrol Agent, Oh, thank God he was there. He just parked his car, got out of his car and he just ran and tackled him,” Hennigan recalled. She said she didn't realize the implications of her actions then, but Thomas James "Jim" Parker would quickly be linked to six earlier attacks, all on petite Asian women.Police said DNA evidence and the zip-ties linked him to those earlier crimes.“I just thought that I was reacting, but after I learned more about the history of the case, it became more apparent how important it was to catch this guy,” Hennigan said.Friday morning, Parker, a married father of two and owner of a Little Italy Coffee Shop hanged himself in his jail cell.Christina Hennigan is being hailed as a hero. She's not so sure and she says she’s still a little conflicted about Parker's death.“Part of me wants him to really realize all the damage that he’s caused to so many lives, you know, but another part of me is just `thank goodness it’s over.’ You know, there’s victims, the other ladies who were, you know, had to go through a lot more than what I did. They don’t have to stand trial. That just, that goes light years for them, you know, they can start to recover,” Hennigan said. She says she’s had no nightmares, yet. But those tense moments Wednesday afternoon continue to run through her brain. She said she’s glad she was strong enough to fight and lucky enough to come out of it safely.
