ESCONDIDO, Calif. -- A man who was arrested Thursday morning in an unincorporated part of Escondido on suspicion of attempted burglary may also be carjacker, a sheriff's lieutenant said.

A woman called 911 at 6:24 a.m. to report a man was walking around her unfenced backyard on Scandia Court, San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Gary Steadman said.

When deputies arrived, they found the man sitting in a vehicle parked nearby, according to Steadman.

Deputies learned that the vehicle was carjacked in Escondido earlier Thursday and took the man into custody, he said. An Escondido police dispatcher said the carjacking was reported shortly after 3 a.m. No other details were immediately available.
