Estimated 800 Homes Affected

UPDATED: 7:33 am PDT July 2, 2009

The City of Escondido issued a boil water order Wednesday for a large area of the city because of possible contamination by coliform bacteria.

Areas affected include the area east of Bear Valley Parkway and Citrus, south of Mountain View Dr., north and west of San Pasqual Rd. and Cloverdale Rd.

Also, all residents living on Canyon Crest Drive, Mountain Crest Glen and Emerald Oaks Glen are affected.

Only about 800 water customers of the City of Escondido are affected. Rincon Del Diablo Water District customers are not affected.

In a news release, city officials said recent tests revealed the presence of coliform bacteria but the source of the contamination is not yet known.

Those affected are urged to use commercially available bottled water or boil all tap water for at least one minute at a full boil for cooking and drinking purposes.

For more information, call the City of Escondido Utilities Department at 760-839-4662. Information is also available online here.
